If you haven't already done so I hope you back up anything you might want. It will be all gone if you don't. I know. I made that mistake myself.

Good luck! I essentially reformatted/re-installed my OS but without warning it deteriorated again, to the point where system recovery/reinstalling the OS again/Safe Mode were no longer viable options.

Trust me when I say I've lost so much data in the past due to unexpected putercides that I know the pain. I very fastidiously burned all my important stuff to dvd's before I started the reformat/reinstall process.

Don't you hate it when your computer just gives up the ghost ! I honestly can't tell you how many computers I've been through over the years and while this recent reformat/reinstall was only the first for my current computer I know this one isn't going to last me much longer. I so desperately need to upgrade.

Yeah, I've estimated that 4 years is the optimal interval to purchase new computers. My computers have lasted from 2000 to 2004, then we got a new one, and that new one lasted from 2004 to 2008. So, basically we're paying for cable internet service we can't even use at the moment! And we're a bit financially strained so we might not be able to get a new computer for a while (this one is fine though).

I'm in the same position re. the fast internet service I'm paying for but unable to fully utilise. (Unless I use my son's computer which is marvelously fast !)

Thankfully, my son is upgrading his computer in a couple of months and will be giving me his old crap so that I can upgrade mine. I can't wait.
